I am not

I am not black.

I am not Muslim.

I am not gay, bi, transgender, queer, etc.

I was not abused as a child.

I was never raped.

I was never poor or homeless.

I was never a victim of domestic violence.

I was never arrested.

I have never done drugs.

I am not an alcoholic.

What I am is human. So when I see those hurt, killed, discriminated against, stuck because of who they are whether by choice or by birth, I feel pain. I hurt.

I want to reach out to those in pain. I want to hug them. Tell them everything will be OK. Help raise them up when the world beats them down.

But I feel like a hypocrite. I am just another heterosexual, Christian, middle class, white person who can go to her home in the suburbs after all is said and done without a worry because
